Tears of the People:
'For the ground our fathers Ploughed in,
The soil, it is the same.
And the places where we say our prayers,
Have just got different names.'
Reflecting on this lyric from Tommy Sands' 1985 ballad 'There were Roses.' Eimear has taken particular inspiration from the above lyric, where there is an appeal from Sands to his listener to find common ground with those who we believe to be different from us.
Relating to her background in traditional music, Eimear has depicted in her piece an accordion and a concertina; Where despite sounding alike, and being from the same reed family, do not look allke; A contrast to Catholic & Protestants who despite looking alike, have had centuries of conflict due to their differences.
Alike sands in his ballad, Eimear through this piece considers the importance of focusing on what unites us, rather than what divides us.
